Come to Johor looking for food and you will be sure to have one hell of a ride looking for good eats. But no food hunt is legit unless you have sampled one of the state's best featured gastronomical sensation: the Nasi Briyani. And for really good nasi Briyani (or Baryani, Biriani, different places entail different manners of spelling it), one must go for Nasi Baryani Mohd Shah located at Kompleks Niaga Peserai in Batu Pahat. Located directly opposite Putra Specialist Hospital Batu Pahat, this place is hard to miss.
As the name aptly suggests, the stall specializes dominantly in the trade of briyani rice, which is a style of cooking rice involving various spices, meat and vegetable, all mixed together. And in Nasi Baryani Mohd Shah, the briyani rice will make your taste buds dance with sheer relish.
Fragrant as a whole, with savory goodness stemming from every bite, the rice is good enough to stand its own but what briyani is complete without a complimentary chunks of soft, tender curry mutton or if you prefer poultry, juicy curry chicken. Well, you are in luck because that is the whole point of going to Nasi Baryani Mohd Shah in the first place.
As you order your plate of Briyani, customers will be given a choice to opt between mutton or chicken to go with the rice. Aromatic enough as it is, the meat -particularly the mutton; further enhances the overall richness of the dish. Cooked for extended periods of time in a large pot of curry, hence allowing the flavors of the curry to permeate the meats, every bite taste heavenly. Both mutton and chicken fall of the bone easily, and with every mouthful, patrons will be put through an immersive dining experience of gastronomical proportions as the flavors explode in your palate.
Also, yet another item worth noting is their acar buah, which is out of this world. Sealed in a little plastic box, ready to go, the sweet and sour taste of the side-dish will leave you wanting for more.
Do note however, that it is best to head on out earlier to have a shot at the nasi briyani as they often sold out at breakneck speeds.
