Teo Chew Fried Kuey Teow @ Jalan Imbi Pudu

Char kuey teow. What is it that pops up in that mind of yours when someone mentions to you those words? Is it the idea of eating a dish oily and wok fried? Or maybe those late supper nights? Or perhaps even that past vacation of yours in Penang? Well, whatever it is, char kuey teow are among the favourite dishes of Malaysians. Usually enjoyed on a simple plastic plate and disposable wooden chopsticks, food like this is usually among the tastiest in the business but in terms of healthiness, probably not as much. This small humble stall is situated along Jalan Barat in Kuala Lumpur, not too far away from the shoppers’ haven of Bukit Bintang, perfect for those who are looking to eat cheap and tasty after a long day of wallet-draining shopping.

Operating from the evening until late at night, one can enjoy a good plate of char kuey teow during a night’s out with friends. Let’s say that you are feeling restless at home and want to head out for a late night supper with friends but have no idea where to head to, then under the cooling night sky and sparkling stars, you can enjoy the dish with a bottle of beer. Literally "stir-fried rice cake strips", you get a reasonable amount of them with eggs. Also, fish cakes are not excluded. A generous amount of nicely sliced fish cakes is fried along and topped off with plenty of fresh bean sprouts for a perfect cherry on the cake.
