Lao San Cafe tucks itself away from the hustling and bustling, chaotic scene of Jonker Walk, opting instead for the refreshing view of Malacca's Great River. Situated at the rows of shop overlooking the river, right behind Jonker Street, Lao San Cafe offers a panoramic view of the river, particularly at night when the view is enhanced by the riverfront lights.
But enough of the scenery and more about the food. As a cafe, Lao San is more inclined to serving tidbits and light snacks, though they do serve food that can fill you up more substantially. Their dishes range from rice -to be specific only nasi lemak; to noodles, served with curry or soup while tidbits come in the form of generic crinkle-cut fries and nuggets. They also serve dumplings, too, if you are up for it.
One can say that their signature lure lies in their cendol. Carefully prepped by the workers, the ice shavings are collected meticulously within a ceramic bowl filled with green jelly pandan noodles and the ice shavings are then topped with a generous amount of palm sugar syrup. Suffice to say it will render any sweet tooth satisfied for the rest of the day.
Coupled with the view overlooking the river, it's definitely a cafe worth looking into when walking along the streets of Malacca, particularly at night.
