Among wholesale stores in one of the lanes of Ipoh Old Town, lies a curious not so little café called Café de Eight.Chinese owned, the café is also given a Chinese name that means Coffee Cave No 8 that shows the owner’s passion when it comes to movies and books. Considered a gem in Ipoh’s growing modern cafés scene, Café de Eight interest their customers with their one of a kind service and ambience, and continue to attract with their consistent food quality.
Going into the café, the spacious area sure seem inviting
to anyone. Separating the café into two are shelves filled with books waiting
to be read, calling out to spend hours lounging in the café. Various artworks
decorated the walls; one side is a painting of Forrest Gump pondering about
life, and the opposite is a wall-ful of pockets signifying one of the fascinations
at the café. The colourful pockets are laid out in a grid-like manner with the
axis representing dates and months. Guests could write out postcards and slot
them in the desired pocket to be sent at that date by the café (no matter how
far the future). This futuristic idea bode seamlessly with the overall older
ambience of the café and its location.
Food-wise, Café de Eight is making a name for themselves through their Pork Burger creation. One of them is called the Three Little Pigs, advertised as three mini burgers with three different pork combination; honey and pork, salted fish and pork, and salted egg and pork, is smaller than the usual burger but not by much. Another signature dish is the noodles and fried chicken named Chicken Ultramee. Café de Eight are also famous for their selection of desserts and coffee like the brownies, cheese cakes, and the chocolate cakes.
