Ayam Goreng Dapur Kayu is firmly rooted in the deep in the industrial area of Johor Bahru. Located near the Post Office, the stall is placed right at the roadside. The stall has been standing for over 40 years and currently passed down to the second generation to continue their business. Even customers who were once little are now bringing their children to this very stall to eat.
The stall is designed in a simplistic ‘kampung’ style manner. There are not many tables and chairs around as the stall is not very huge. Brown steel iron grills basically cover the stall. It is sheltered by a large roof to shield the hot scorching sun. the stall is outdoors so it can get rather hot and humid especially in in the afternoon when it is the hottest. Customers order their meals at the front counter. The chickens are displayed at the counter along with the different sauces.
This golden slightly charred crisp chicken is one where many locals love to savour. The customers are free to choose the chicken and the cook will chop them into bite size. It is served with white fragrant rice together with a variety of sauces; asam pedas sauce, curry sauce, sambal tumis or acar and pickled vegetables. It is best to eat when its just freshly brought to you hot and crispy.
