Gerai Minang Azhar Petaling Jaya

Padang style rice (more commonly known as Nasi Padang) is a staple dish for the Minangkabau people of the city of Padang, located in West Sumatra. The general idea behind this delicacy is that steamed rice is served with various choices of pre-cooked dishes, some of which include meats, fish, vegetables, curries, and spicy sambals. The delicacy is often noted as Sumatra's most famous export and the Minangkabau's great contribution to Indonesian cuisine. It has spread to many other regions in the world, including Malaysia. One outlet that specialises in nasi Padang is Gerai Minang Azhar, which is located in Kompleks Pasar Taman Dato Harun in Petaling Jaya. The stall is run by a duo, known to most of us as Azhar and Azizah.

While the selection of sides to go with the steamed rice isn’t as expansive as nasi Padang usually is, there’s still plenty to enjoy here. There are around 6 types of curries, 4 types of vegetables, and a myriad of meats, fish, and spicy sambals. For those who are a bit more adventurous with their side dishes, beef rendang dishes with cuts of spleen and liver meat are also available.

There’s a few other things to be had besides nasi Padang at Gerai Minang Azhar, such as a bowl of sup tulang, and some pickled vegetables. Gerai Minang Azhar also takes reservations and does catering services for large gatherings and parties. In short, Gerai Minang Azhar is a great destination to get your nasi Padang fix in the Petaling Jaya area.
