Self-proclaimed as the king of all rojak in Penang, Hock Seng Rojak has bore the reputation for being one of the must-try rojak in Penang. What sets it apart among others is the thick rojak sauce that is rich with shrimp paste with hints of spices and some sweetness amidst the crunchiness that is contributed by their finely crushed nuts. Looking back in time, the sauce seems to be the most important part of a rojak dish and it definitely draws the line between a good plate of rojak or a mere decent one. If you are looking for a sweet and gooey rojak paste then this is the perfect place.
In a plate of rojak, do expect bite-sized pieces of sengkuang, pineapple, guava, and mangoes mixed together for the ultimate dance-off on top of your tongue palette with flavours that put forward some sweetness yet hinting sourness at the right spot. Adding in the sauce makes everything even better. The thick rojak paste will be added with peanuts (not even chunks) and scoops of dried shrimp, so do beware fellow citizens with allergies! For this magnificent dish is not made for the weak-immunity. Damage wise, might be a little pricey than usual however considering the measly portion of their sauce drenched on top of condiments and slices of rojak it will not burn a hole in your wallet. From RM 7 for a small size and RM 14 for a tad better size which is enough to fill an angry stomach.
