Kedai Makan Shahza or Shahza Bariani by their Facebook page is a shop specialising in Nasi Beriani and Nasi Lemak Kukus located at Section 7 Shah Alam. Shahza is one of the more popular spots for nasi beriani even if the dish is only sold Friday and Saturday in a week. Now with another branch in Petaling Jaya, customers can choose where to go to sample Shahza’s greatness. The owner started the business in Shah Alam when after years of working overseas; he had developed a sense for cooking great food.
The signature options here include the Lamb Beriani and Indonesian Uduk Rice. Serving the southern peninsular version of beriani rice, Shahza has been getting stimulating reviews about their authenticity. A serving of beriani rice here would come along with the usual side of acar, dalca and papadum. Acar is a mix of vegetables and fruits in vinegar that resulted in a sour-ish sweet taste that brings out the flavours of the beriani even more. The lamb is cooked in a pressure cooker that resulted in fall off the bone, melts in your mouth pieces of meat that is an absolute wonder to have. Shahza also specialises in Indonesian influenced cuisine like the aforementioned Uduk Rice as well as the Nasi Lemak Kukus Jakarta. Nasi Uduk is quite similar to Nasi Ayam Penyet, except the chicken for Uduk is boiled first before frying. The addition of pieces of tempe and sambal elevates this dish to another level.
Nasi Lemak Kukus is usually served with spiced fried chicken, but also comes with other options like fried fish and fried liver. The upgraded version of pisang goreng, Cheese Chocolate Banana Fritters is also a must try. Other menu options include Masak Merah Chicken Beriani, Chicken Beriani, and Beef Beriani.
