Kotakotak Café is quite a recent café to join a legion
of similar theme cafés in Klang Valley, though they may be one of the very few
in Glenmarie. The story behind the name is that the shop lot used to be a
storage place for the office above it. The design for the restaurant was thought
off by the owner herself who’s also an architect. The interior was done in a
minimalist style with the main focus on the colour ‘white’, with specks of brown
from the furniture. Since the shop has a theme, actual boxes are placed at various
sections as decorations and the layout is quite box-y and squares.
There are a number of items here at Kotakotak where each
has their own special trait. Take the sandwich for instance; customers can
choose to customise their own sandwich with options ranging from the usual to
some healthy ones. If you are worried what you choose may not go well together,
the staff are more than happy to provide some recommendations. Customising is a
thing here as you could customise your plate of Big Breakfast too, with the
same healthy options if you so prefer. One of the signatures also includes the
pasta with a local twist, Chilli Padi Aglio Olio. The classic seafood aglio
olio with hefty serving of sizable seafood is taken up a notch with the heat
from bird’s eye chilli. If you are a fan of colours or just adore colourful
things, get the smartly named Rainbowl, a bowl of pan-fried salmon, rows of healthy
veggies following the colour of the rainbow, and eggs over Miso rice. This is
testament that a dish should not be only good but look good too.
With interesting food combinations, relaxing ambience, and
friendly service, Kotakotak deserves a visit. Other worthy mentions are the
Vege Fries, Nasi Lemak, and Pasta Soup.
