Pusat Penjaja Taiping is a food court located in the
capital of Perak and houses many stalls, both halal and non-halal. The roads
here can be quite confusing with crossroads and one way streets, and parking that
are not easily attainable, so be wary when driving around. Nonetheless, the
amount of different food available, it is the haven that has something for
everyone.
For
breakfast head on to the infamous Taiping Chee Cheong Fun stall for a
flavourful start to your day. Self service is the norm here as the stall is
manned by one person and most days are busier than others. The Chee Cheong Fun
is served on a plate with chunks of yam cake, showered with tim cheong sweet
sauce and topped with a generous amount of sesame seeds and fried shallots. A
true wonder to have, this dish is simple, fulfilling for breakfast, and best of
all, cheap. The next on the list is the Wantan Mee Stall. The sight of at least
one bowl (if not more) at each table is a common occurrence. The serving of wriggly
egg noodles dunked in dark sauce; with slices of red char siew and a side bowl
of dumplings in clear broth is enough to boosts your happy spirit. Then there’s
the Kuih Teow Goreng Stall that serves a wetter than Penang version of Char
Kuey Teow, but satisfying anyway with the concoction of slightly spicy fried
noodles, crunchy bean sprouts, chives, shrimps and eggs. On the halal side of
things, you can find stalls selling scrumptious Satays, Malay version of Yong
Tau Foo, and the goodness of Sotong Kangkung. Anyone can easily lose oneself in
the midst of the people and the food options at Pusat Penjaja Taiping.
