Sin Kok Thye is an old school cafe situated at in Klang.
Known to serve good authentic Hainanese cuisine, it has always attracted the
attention of the local community as well as people from outside the state. Because
it was kept free and easy for all, it is a norm to see people from all walks of
life and beliefs coming to sample the cuisine from this quaint Chinese coffee
shop. The simple interior is packed especially during weekends, and the line to
come into shop is visible from outside.
Sin Kok Thye is most famous for their Hainanese Chicken Chop. This slight variation of the common Western dish can be considered
equally as popular. The Hainanese Chicken Chop at Sin Kok Thye is served simply
of lightly coated chicken, onion slices, potato wedges, some green peas and
poured over on top with a watery savoury slash tangy tomato sauce. Then there’s
the much loved; a simpleton among dishes, the Toast. It is expected
for any kopitiam to serve this classic bread dish and Sin Kok Thye is one of
those that do it well with generous slab of butter. Another popular
favourite is the Hailam Mee, the other famously Hainanese dish of noodles stir
fried with meat and vegetables in soy sauce gravy. The best way to enjoy any of
these cultural dishes is with a good ‘ol cup of Kopi O.
Good food is one thing but pair that with fast service
and you’ll have a shop worth going all the time. The parking here can be quite
a nuisance as the shop is right in front of a main road but try your luck at
the back of the shop. Other must try dishes include the sea version Hainanese
Fish and Chips, Lamb Chop and Steak.
