Tong Sui Stall @ Jalan Ipoh Kuala Lumpur

Recently featured in the Star newspaper and also the Malay Mail, this particular no-named stall located near the -now permanently closed down; HSBC Bank off Jalan Ipoh has captured the hearts of many locals when it boils down to having sweet, hearty and warm dessertsA one-man stall operated by a 70-year-old elderly named Khoo, this stall have been steadily churning out bowl after bowl of authentic Tong Sui that have left customers coming back for more. 


In terms of the Tong Sui in which Khoo serves, there are two desserts that are permanently on the menu -the Lok Mei (6 Flavours) and Kai Tan Char (Herbal Tea with Egg), while a few others are available on daily rotations -Pak Kor Yi Mai (Gingko Barley), Hong Tau (Red Bean Soup), Far Sang Hu (Peanut Paste Soup), Mak Zuk (Wheat Porridge), Lok Tau (Green Bean Soup), Tei Tau (Black-eyed Pea Soup) and black glutinous rice soup. 


Among the many variations however, the Lok Mei stands out as the signature dessert due to the myriad of ingredient used in its making. Comprising of 6 different ingredients (hence the name) -lotus seed, ginkgo, white fungus, barley, jelly and a certain Chinese herb that we do not quite know the name; this is one dessert that has both the balance between sweet and healthy, a combination of traits uncommon in most desserts. 


Aside from Tong Sui, the stall also have traditional snacks such as Bak Chang (Chinese dumplings), curry puffs, kaya puffs and the likes, just to name a few.
