This humble, nondescript Tong Sui stall is operated from a counter attached to an old motorcycle. There are no seats available apart from a few scattered plastic chairs, but that does not stop enthusiastic patrons from stopping buy to get a fix of Tong Sui. This stall is nameless, although some label it as Poon Kee for unknown reasons. However, to avoid confusion with Poon Kee Desserts, we will just call it the stall next to BHP petrol station in Taman Muda.
Their menu differs
daily, but if you happen to stumble upon the Black Sesame Soup, be sure to give
it a try! This appetizing blend of black sesame seed, peanut and rock sugar is
thick with an almost pudding-like consistency. It is smooth and creamy on the
tongue and soothing to the throat. Do also sample their Bubur Gandum, which is
unexpectedly light and aromatic. It is of moderate sweetness unlike some of the
extremely sugary ones. The texture is smooth with a good bite from the bits of
rice grains. Their Fuchuk with Beans is also a must try. Cow Peas are added into
the brew, giving a unique spin to the traditional fuchuk dessert. The fuchuk
(bean curd sheets) and beans complement each other perfectly.
Do stop by for a piping
hot bowl of Tong Sui. If you are craving for a meal, there is at times a food
truck that sells Chee Cheong Fun right beside this Tong Sui stall.
