We are always in the search of a good bowl of clay pot
chicken rice. While not the best but definitely somewhere near the top, Choong
Kee Kampar Claypot Chicken Rice has been around for a long time, serving their
celebrated recipe of claypot chicken rice.
There
are not many dishes offered here, clearly Choong Kee rather go straight to the
point. The only claypot rice available is chicken, with optional addition of
egg, salted fish, and Chinese sausage at a price. Their Claypot Chicken Rice
comes in two sizes, big and small, and customers could order a side of the
usual Chinese vegetables to complete the meal. Choong Kee also offers what they
call the Steamed Soup Special, where one could go for soups like Lotus Root
with Pork Rib, or Herb with Kampung Chicken, out of the eight choices
available. Another worthy mention of this joint is their Herbal Tea. It is very
easy to get a hit and a miss when it comes to Chinese herbal tea, but Choong
Kee got it right. Or if you feel less like it, you could opt for their range
of Chinese Teas; from Pu Er to Te Kuan Yin, complete your meal with something
refreshing. The price for a meal at Choong Kee is not overly pricey, but it is
not the price at some Chinese roadside stall either. Choong Kee’s popularity is
enough to have lots of customers, a long waiting time, and a possibility of
running out of ingredients. It is best to call beforehand if you ever decide to
visit, or, avoid the peak hours.
