Mie Cord Char Kway Teow Kuala Lumpur

Finding authentic Penang Char Kuey Teow in KL could be quite a challenge especially when almost every stall slaps Penang Char Kuey Teow on their signboard. If you are not aware, other than the Chinese-style Char Kuey Teow, there is also a Malay version of it. One similarity that they share is that they are both originated from Penang. Located in Jalan Sungai Penchala, Mie Cord’s Char Kuey Teow is operated by a true Penangite. Though not air-conditioned but the place is equipped with ceiling fans so there is no worry about sweating for good food.

Unlike the Chinese version of Char Kuey Teow, the Malay-style Char Kuey Teow has a stronger flavour as it is cooked with gravy sauce. Served with slices of pickled green chillis, those who enjoy their Char Kuey Teow moist would love this. Fun fact about Mie Cord’s Char Kuey Teow is that the owner insists on rinsing the eggs used for the Char Kuey Teow before cooking, he is so proud of it that he advertises it on a banner.

The Char Kuey Teow here is available in three different portions and for those who are heavy eaters, it is suggested that you go for the big one. Don’t expect the special one to be bigger in portion as it only comes with extra seafood and a sunny side up, so you’re only paying extra for the toppings. If you’re not a fan of Char Kuey Teow, they also happen to offer Fried Rice and Fried Noodles here. Not exactly what they’re famed for but it will do the job.

The Chinese version of Char Kuey Teow could be a little too much for you sometimes so why not give this a try for a change of flavour.
