Located opposite the Yong Peng
Police Station along the Yong Peng main road is Restoran Hock Swee Hin, one of
very few Chinese restaurants out there that specialises in Foochow style dishes.
Foochow cuisine tastes lighter and not as overpowering compared to that of some
other Chinese cooking styles. It often has a mix of sweet and sour taste with
little to no usage of spices, and retains the original flavor of the main
ingredients instead of masking them. The interior of the restaurant doesn’t
have much to bring up. That said, the restaurant is very neat, clean and well
ventilated.
When it comes to the Foochow
dishes served here, there’s certainly a wide variety to enjoy. Some of the
dishes include the Foochow noodles (which is similar to Hokkien mee but uses
house made noodles), stir fried brinjal on a bed of raw cabbage, stir fried
onion cabbage, Foochow soup (similar to shark fin soup), and a whole lot more.
With all these dishes, the obvious standout dishes are undoubtedly the Foochow
fish ball noodles and the red rice wine chicken.
Beyond just selling these dishes,
Restoran Hock Swee Hin also sells a number of other items such as a number of
different fruits such as soursop, passion fruit, as well as their signature
bottles of honey that are also a massive favourite at the restaurant. So if you’re
looking into trying out Foochow cuisine whilst in Batu Pahat, Restoran Hock
Swee Hin will certainly be a pleaser; giving a dining experience you won’t soon
forget.
