Started its operation in 2014 by Her Excellency Victoria Treadell, the British High Commissioner to Malaysia, Newens Tea House brings an entirely new and fresh dining experience to the city centre of Kuala Lumpur. Incomparable to others, the tea house combines finest English baking traditions from the Original Newens Tea House in London and the modern setting of Starhill Gallery along with traditional classic English décor as to complement the 500 year old recipe of Maids of Honour tarts and other delectable pastries available.
For a true English British high tea experience, one must try Newen’s well renowned high tea menu. Several selection of high teas can be found in the menu – the basic high tea for two serves freshly baked scones, clotted cream and preserves, assorted sandwiches, Original Maids of Honour, delicious pastries and macrons. Those who are in need of savoury can go for their Oriental Afternoon Tea which serves steamed siew mai and hark au, fluffy yam puff, spring roll, deep fried mango roll and crispy bean curd skin, pumpkin seed sesame bean, lotus bun and steamed custard bun. Both sets include a pot of your preferred choice of tea from a selection of over 60 different tea blends.
Instead of ordering the high tea sets, diners are welcomed to order individual lights bites from their wide range of menu such as croissant, selection of gourmet sandwiches, patisserie and sweets that are baked fresh on-site daily such as King Henry VIII’s favourite Original Maids of Honour tarts, scones, homemade quiche, macarons, pralines, cakes and others. Other savoury cuisine from Shook, Fisherman’s Cove, Tarbush Restaurant and Al Halabi lounge are also available.
Other than tea, Newen’s also offers a list of red and white wine, champagne, beer, cocktails, mocktails, liqueur, aperitif, cognac, whisky, gin, vodka, rum, tequila as well as juices and coffee apart from tea.
