Written by Updated ago

When people talk about Taiwan, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Food! But if you're worried about finding halal food there, no need to panic – Taiwan actually has a lot of Muslim-friendly options that are just waiting to be discovered. Trust us, our foodie team had a blast hunting down the best eats, and we’re super excited to share our top picks with you!

Brought to you by Malaysian Harmony, here’s a fun list of 8 must-try Muslim-friendly foods in Taiwan. P.S. These are our personal favorites, so feel free to take them as recommendations—not your typical ranking. Let’s dig in, shall we?

1. Kuozang Mini Hot Pot

This hidden gem, run by a Muslim Indian-Taiwanese couple, brings authentic flavors with a twist. Their extensive soup options include the usual favorites like Spicy and Tom Yum, but try their Pumpkin Milk Hot Pot or Stinky Hot Pot for something unique. You can even dive into Halal Stinky Tofu, a rare and delicious alternative to the usual fermented tofu sold at street markets. And because no meal is complete without dessert, they offer free-flow ice cream and popcorn to cap off your meal.

2. Ice Monster, Taipei

If you’re craving something cold and refreshing, Ice Monster in Taipei is a must. We tried their famous mango shaved ice, and let’s just say it’s HUGE – perfect for sharing (or not, if you're feeling greedy!). The texture was this amazing mix between cotton candy and snow, and the mango was fresh, not canned. While it’s a bit on the pricey side, the taste and portion size made it worth every penny. If mango isn’t your thing, don’t worry – the Pearl Milk Tea Sensation and Taro & Red Bean Milk Avalanche will definitely win you over!

3. Uncle Ma’s Shao Bing & Sweet Pastries

For a taste of local halal snacks, Uncle Ma’s is the spot! Run by a Taiwanese Muslim, this little gem serves up flaky beef Shao Bing (think Chinese flatbread) layered with five-spice flavors that we couldn’t get enough of. The cold beef slices were melt-in-your-mouth tender, and it was still delicious even after we saved some for breakfast the next day. Pro tip: grab some beef dumplings or the beef noodle soup while you're there – it’s hearty, savory, and oh-so-satisfying!

4. Chang’s Beef Noodles Shop

Nothing beats a comforting bowl of noodles, and Chang’s Beef Noodles Shop did not disappoint. Located near Ximending, it’s the perfect place to refuel after a shopping spree. We slurped up their famous Niu Rou Mian (beef noodle soup), and the broth was rich and flavorful without being too heavy. Their scallion pancakes with beef and eggs? Another must-try – crispy, chewy, and packed with umami goodness!

5. Fried Chicken Master

What’s a trip to Taiwan without tasting its legendary fried chicken? Fried Chicken Master offers halal versions of this local favorite. We couldn’t get enough of the crispy, juicy chicken steak seasoned with Taiwanese spices. Whether you go for the boneless thigh or breast, you’re in for a crunchy, mouthwatering treat. We recommend grabbing some for a quick snack while exploring Taipei!

6. Kunming Islamic Restaurant

For something a little different, we headed to Kunming Islamic Restaurant in Taipei. This place is known for its fusion of Middle Eastern, Indian, and Taiwanese flavors, all halal and alcohol-free. It’s a fantastic spot to try something new, and guess what – they even serve Teh Tarik for a little taste of home! From the fresh ingredients to the cozy atmosphere, this was definitely one of our favorites.

7. Gongming Street, Tamsui

If street food is your jam, take a stroll down Gongming Street in Tamsui. This charming seaside street is filled with Muslim-friendly snacks like wheel cakes, nougat, and roasted corn. We even found a vendor selling fried durian with taro and yam – and he was more than happy to assure us, “You Muslim okay!” A laid-back alternative to the bustling night markets, Gongming Street is perfect for those who want to avoid the crowds.

8. Vigor Kobo

Vigor Kobo is a halal-certified bakery known for its Taiwanese pineapple cakes, and it’s one of the top souvenir shops in Taipei. We grabbed some of their famous Pineapple Cakes and Milk Sun Cakes, and wow, they were light, sweet, and perfect for snacking. If you’re looking to bring home a tasty reminder of Taiwan, this is the spot to stock up!
