Phaik Laksa started out as a humble little stall outside the corridors of a company in Seang Tei Road. Due to the support from patrons, they have since expanded and moved to a newer, bigger outlet at Jalan Air Hitam. It is extremely popular with locals, especially students studying in the nearby high schools. The interior of the restaurant is simple and comfortable. Apart from that, it is also sparkling clean and smoking is banned.

Of course, as you can see from the shop name, Asam Laksa is one of their signature dishes. Their broth is the perfect marriage between the light gravy commonly found in Penang main land and the sweeter, darker gravy from Penang island. It is definitely masterful for them to be able to execute such sweetness while maintaining the subtleness of the broth. It is not too spicy with the delicious flavour of shrimp paste. Laden with fresh greens, the noodles are soft and bouncy. They also serve Yam Rice which is best to consume with the laksa soup leftover from your noodles.

You can also sample their Hokkien Mee which features a sweet seafood broth that flavour is further accentuated with crustacean and pork bones. Along with the noodles, there are hard boiled eggs, shrimps, pork slices and water spinach. A dollop of spicy chilli paste adds to the taste. There is also deep fried food that you can order such as Prawn Crackers and Deep Fried Spring Rolls. With a shattering crisp, they are good to eat on their own or with the noodle broths. They also serve Curry Puffs which is stuffed with generous amount of onions, potatoes and shredded chicken.

Do not miss out their famed Ai Yu, a jelly-ice like Taiwanese dessert. A lot of customers go there just for it! It is extremely refreshing, pefect for the blazing Malaysia heat. It consists jelly strips, longan, lychee and a dash of fresh lemon juice along with shaved ice.
