Choy Kee started off as a humble-looking stall in Kampung Simee Market. Their egg tarts and other pastry captured the hearts of many, and die-hard loyalists often brace the morning sluggishness and market congestion to line up even while the tarts are still in the oven. Their tarts sell out speedily especially during weekends and public holidays. However, fret not if you do not manage to grab yourself one as their egg tarts are baked in batches. Once in a while, a man will deliver a new batch of pastry on a bike and you can always ask the stall vendor when the next batch will be ready.
Their Egg Tarts are oven-fresh and best enjoyed when they are
still warm. The pastry crust is fluffy but crisp and just the right thickness
with a buttery aroma. The egg custard filling is silky and creamy and will melt
in your mouth. It sweetness goes perfectly with the slightly salty crust. Those
dainty, wobbly delicacies come in neatly packed boxes of 8 or less. Their Kai
Soh (Chicken Pie) is also a must try, with a slightly thick but crunchy crust
baked to perfection. The filling is composed of chunks of chicken and green
peas skilfully fried with sesame oil, soy sauce and oyster sauce which will
definitely delight your palate. Their Siew Pau (Baked Barbecue Bun) is also
recommended, with the diced roasted pork filling leaving a lasting impression
on your tongue.
Luckily, they have since expanded their business and opened
their very own bakery across the road. Now, pastry lovers can obtain their
delicious confectionaries later in the day.
