Gao Ren Guan is a Chinese restaurant that is nestled in SS15, Subang. ‘Gao’ means tall in Mandarin. Do not be deceived by the name though, as the restaurant has nothing to do with tall people. Instead, it serves dishes originating from Gauzhou, one of the provinces of southwest China in Guangdong. There are other branches in Puchong and Petaling Jaya. Specializing in natural ingredients, the use of preservative in their dishes is minimal.
Upon entering, you will be greeted with a stretch of wall
featuring their best-selling specialities. The interior is simple but comfortable
with air-conditioning, providing a comfortable dining experience. As their main
marketing paraphernalia is that of an old man cooking and slicing pork over a
traditional stove, you can expect that their menu is pork dominated. Their Yam
Pork Belly is a must try, with the perfect ratio of pork meat and fats that
melt in your mouth. Do also sample their Braised Stuffed Bean Curd which comes
in a bowl of flavourful broth, giving the bean curd it’s juiciness. The
stuffing is prepared using their own recipe of chives and stir fried minced
meat.
They also serve Din Sum, with a wide range of choices from
dumplings to fried dishes. Their prawn dumpling is delicious, with big and
juicy prawns wrapped in thin, smooth skin. For dessert, definitely give their
Gui Ling Gao a try. It comes with honey syrup which goes perfectly with the
slightly bitter jelly.
