Puchong is an industrial area that has seen massive commercialisation over the years. Now filled with industrial parks, commercial centres and residential areas, Puchong is a place of business and homes. While the area is not particularly famous for one thing, much of Puchong’s gems have yet to be discovered. One such gem is situated at Bandar Kinrara 3; a Pisang Goreng stall (banana fritters) that have been around for longer than one might think.
The
stall is run by the owner, a Malay uncle, Yousef Besari, with help from his now
grown up sons. Having been around for 17 years, the proof of time stood beside
the stall giving shade to them under the harsh Malaysian sun. A mere sapling
when it was planted all those years ago, it has withstood the test of nature
and grown big enough to contribute back to the family. Simply known as the BK3
Pisang Goreng Stall, there are more than just banana fritters here. Various
deep fried treats that we Malaysian hold dear as our evening accompaniment;
keropok lekor, cekodok, fried popiah, cucur, as well as pre-packed nasi lemak
for good measure. To have lasted for this long shows their effort and
perseverance even during tough times as their goodies are still available at
the same standard price (three for RM1). Yousef would also wake up as early as
three in the morning to prepare nasi lemak to nearby restaurants for the
breakfast rush, and then continue to prepare ingredients and start operating
the stall at 1 PM. The business would last until seven in the evening so there’s
plenty of time to get your dose of all your kuih favourite.
