Pak Anjang Bariani Johore is an
establishment specialising in Nasi Briyani in Section 13 Shah Alam. It is not
easy to find authentic cuisine, even more so when it hailed from another state
but to the joy of Johoreans and people who enjoy the best of Johor foods. The
restaurant is separated into two sections; inside and outside, while the
interior is kept simple with minimal furniture that gives the restaurant its
clean look. As per usual Malay restaurants, there are barely any decorations except
for a frame or two, on the walls as the people here care most about the food
and little else. Other than dining in, Pak Anjang Bariani Johore also accepts
catering orders by the bulk.
Like its name, Pak Anjang is most famously known
for its Nasi Briyani as that is the only variety available there, with a few other
Johor dishes as well. Briyani is a type of rice, cooked in various spices that
lead to a fragrant result and usually served with chicken, beef, or mutton. Johor
is known as the place where the famous Nasi Briyani Gam is hailed from. Unlike
normal briyani, nasi briyani gam is cooked together with the meat that produces
a somewhat sticky finish, hence the name ‘gam’ or glue. Served with some dhal
curry, pickled cucumber and chilli, the popularity of this dish showed at times
when the shop would run out of their signature dish.
Johor
foods are similar yet different than the usual Malay selection but it is a celebrated
success, as seen in of such shops like Pak Anjang. The restaurant also serve
the normal nasi briyani with sides like the new Spiced Fried Chicken, as well
as Mee Bandung, Sirap Bandung Muar, Tauhu Bakar, and Rojak Petis.
