Thean Chun has been around for quite some time and is
very popular among people living in Ipoh and coming to Ipoh. Of course with its
location at Ipoh Old Town, where all the good and legendary foods are, it is to
no wonder that it attracts customers all the time. The shop is historically
old, and has been kept so because interior design is always secondary when it
comes to specialised shops like this. Maintaining the old kopitiam style café,
the shop is full of delicacies from its individual stalls.
However, those stalls are only the appetisers to the
main event. The number one thing Thean Chun Coffee Shop is known for is their
Kai See Hor Fun, which means Chicken Kuey Teow Soup. This classic dish has span
many imitations by other shops, but why not enjoy it from the most popular and
recognisable shop in town? Thean Chun Hor Fun is all about great pleasures in a
bowl; the clear broth with the layer of oil that stems from the prawn heads
that were boiled into making it, the thinner than normal kuey teow noodles, plus
shredded poached chicken, fresh shrimps and chopped spring onions, you could
down a serving in one go. For that extra heat and flavour, spice it up with the
side of bird’s eye chillies in soy sauce.
These
noodles sells out particularly fast on weekends and holidays so be early then.
But if you’re there anyway, waiting for some time for your noodles is the
expected norm. Which is why while waiting, give their stall dish a try. The
Ipoh Chee Cheong Fun, Satay (especially the Pork Satay), and the Caramel Pudding
are no less incredible at Thean Chun.
