Restoran Yong Sheng is a Chinese
restaurant and coffee shop located in the Taipan area of USJ, Subang Jaya. The
restaurant has a number of hawker stalls for customers to choose from for their
meal for anytime of the day. The restaurant used to be named Restoran Lam Hing
Leong before it’s name changed many years later. While this type of restaurant
isn’t exactly anything new to Malaysians, the restaurant has one particular
stall that keeps customers regularly coming back – the Lorong Selamat Char Kuey Teow stall (not to be confused with the infamous char kuey teow stall all the
way up north in Lorong Selamat, Penang).
The name comes from the fact that
the owner of the stall, Jimmy Lee (affectionately known by his regular
customers as Uncle Jimmy), and his wife are from the same street in Penang. The
coupled moved from Penang to Klang in 2008 initially selling prawn mee before
making the switch to char kuey teow (a more popular choice) and making the move
to USJ. By Uncle Jimmy’s own admission, his recipe differs greatly with that of
the Lorong Selamat char kuey teow in Penang, which has a heavy emphasis on
large prawns. The char kuey teow here on the other hand has a more prominent
emphasis on using pork in the dish, with the addition of chopped crispy pork
lard bits and Chinese sausages (lap cheong) to give it a different flavour than
most plates of this local classic.
So if you’re around the Taipan
area and are looking to satiate your char kuey teow fix, look no further than
Restoran Yong Sheng.
