Ayam Penyet is a traditional Indonesian cuisine which originates from Surabaya. This popular local chicken dish utilizes fresh chicken that is handfully marinated for long hours, using various spices and herbs. The name 'penyet' originates from the way of cooking the meat which is then smashed with a wooden headed hammer and deep fried until golden light brown. The best part of enjoying the ayam penyet is that the meat is fried until it is totally crispy from outside and yet juicy inside.

Warung Dinap (Ayam Penyet Cik Nap Meru)
As the name goes, Cik Nap Meru operates and sells her special ayam penyet in a small stall that is often crowded with local residences and family-goers. Her menu is small and simple, as she only serves her homecooked nasi lemak ayam and ayam penyet. In short, Warung Dinap is a great place to snack on some local, street ayam penyet without having to fork out a lot of cash. Incredibly cheap, but tasty nonetheless!

Lesehan Ayam Penyet
When you hear Lesehan's ayam penyet, think of the true original Java taste. Ayam penyet has never tasted this authentic! This humble eatery does not only cater for ayam penyet fans as they serve basically anything that is 'bakar' (grilled). If you're looking for a meal with ayam penyet along with some variety, Lesehan is a good spot to settle for with its smokingly aromatic kambing bakar (grilled lamb) and itik bakar (grilled duck).
