At Restaurant Ful Lai, one can enjoy dim sum till 2 in the morning, either for those who has a sudden dim sum craving (you know our belly is simply unpredictable) or drunk food for our fellow clubbers. However, it is not limited merely to those who are nocturnal but early birds as well. But brace yourselves, there usually is quite a line in the morning, especially when it is close to brunch hour. Choices of dim sum deserve a mention here, but if you yearn for a side to tag along, do not miss their Char Siew Bao.

Say goodbye to the scorching heat and clinking trays, as you step into a comfortable and modern eatery that serves you as good or even better Dim Sum. Dolly Dim Sum gives you a comfortable, visually pleasing and safe haven from the bustling city. Washing it all down with tea is pretty common, but here one can expect Oriental-inspired cocktails! How cool is that?

Marco Polo has been home to many dim sum lovers in the past. Although over-shadowed by recent and more modern dim sum competitors, Marco Polo has still yet to give up, garnering a loyal following of their own. Marco Polo is also one of the few restaurants that serve Dim Sum buffet for lunch. Apart from that, ala carte menu is also available for lunch and dinner. Last but not least, most of what they serve were pretty fresh and only some had minor drawbacks. Char siew bao and stewed chicken feet work wonderfully with the dim sums.

The dim sum at Secret Loc Cafe covers a wide range of options. From the steamed options, to the fried items; from main course items, to dessert, there’s a lot to choose from. The standouts in this extensive list have to be the Shanghai Xiao Long Bao, the creamy custard bun and the fried radish cake. The Shanghai Xiao Long Bao has that burst of flavourful soup that you look for in this particular dim sum. The skin holds it all in very well without you having to worry about the soup spilling out of the seal. The fried radish cake is cooked very well, resulting in a crispy exterior with a soft interior that’s a pleasure to bite into. As for the creamy custard bun, the skin is just thick enough to hold the juicy, creamy filling in the centre, but easy enough to bite into to enjoy the filling inside that has a great consistency.

    Tips

Dim Sum items with a liquid center need to be handled with care.

    Things to expect

The Shanghai Xiao Long Bao does not come with a soup spoon unlike most dim sum establishments.

Kedai Kopi Mee Bon has been a dim sum place for many of the locals for years. Illiterate in English with no menu and pricing, most of what they do might seem pretty ambiguous. Waiters will come out with a tray filled with different types of dishes, walking around aimlessly, and awaiting customer’s order. Hence, it is crucial that you notify them by force (verbal force). In general, the food was pretty good with a reasonable portion, the only thing lacking was perhaps the service. On a side note, their chicken wing cooked in a paper bag is highly recommended too.

    Tips

First come first serve – there might be others who might fight for the same thing.

    Things to expect

Service slow and may be inattentive and some dim sum were made in house.

The Ming Room is a full-fledged Chinese restaurant that serves Dim Sum for breakfast and ala carte for breakfast, lunch and dinner. What makes their dim sum a big hit is they are never skimp in terms of filling and each piece is given close scrutiny by the chefs. Interiorly, it’s pretty oriental with tables and chairs ranged not far from one another. It’s pretty difficult to manoeuvre in such a place. However, the staffs were friendly enough to attend to your calls and order, so no worries about going around looking for food – although there are live chefs cooking in front of everyone.

Toms' place is not just your ordinary cafe, as they serve a wholesome delight of fresh dim sum to locals near and far. Most dim sum these days are often pre-cooked and warmed upon order, but the folks at Toms' are more keen in making and preparing them upon order; which ensures absolute freshness and quality dim sum. What's more, their price is super reasonable for a KL eatery. Though it isn't exactly a fancy place, their price to taste ratio is absolutely on point. Truly justifying the loyal following they have garnered.

The tender braised pork ribs and the accompanying spicy gravy are enough to make a dish.It is very good to sell and is only available on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.Keep your expectations low, just for nostalgia. Because almost everything here is self-service-no one carries snack baskets for you to choose from.
