Revered as a delicacy across the country, prawn fritters or more affectionately known as Cucur Udang is commonly a tea time snack for Malaysians of all ages. Deep-fried to an amber-brown hue, the fritters are chock-full with bean sprouts and couple of fresh prawns perched atop, giving it that firm crunchy bite on the outside and pillowy joy on the inside. Well, no deep-fried food is complete with a sauce towing along, expect a chili or peanut sauce to complete the glee here. It’s so worthy, these morsels have found its way as common consorts in pasembur, mamak fried noodles and mee rebus. Wherever in the list you decide to start with, never be skimp on your orders as each mouthful definitely turns you into a hedonist.

Nyonya Leaf
What started off as a Nyonya kuih catering back in the year 2011, today has emerged as a to-go spot to chomp down authentic Nyonya cuisine and local favourites. Planted in Komtar JB, its constantly brimming with patrons amid a sleekly designed and comfortable ambiance. Tuck yourself on the tiffany coloured chairs and fill up the marble table with as many dishes as possible, and their cucur udang is among the trump cards. Their prawn fritter is different from the norm, it shrivels to a bowl shape while swimming on the fryer as its much thinner and crisper compared to others in the list. Each mouthful just crackles and explodes with excitements with bean sprouts and kuchai leaves, and unshelled prawns resting above. Dip in their sweet-spicy chili sauce for extra indulgence.
