Best French Restaurants in KL

Written by Updated ago

Classic haute French food may still be considered as posh in a city such as Kuala Lumpur where French chefs dominate the local fine dining scene. But there are some of these restaurants unconventionally spearheaded by Asian food connoiseurs such as at Cilantro and then there are those traditional fine dining winery and classy bistros where the cuisine of la France lives on. Here are the best French restaurants in Kuala Lumpur, in no particular order.

Headed by renowned chef Chris Bauer, Cantaloupe has been earning rave reviews and collecting awards since its launch in 2013, which makes it the perfect choice for this list. The French restaurant is housed within Troika Sky Dining, occupying the 23rd floor and offering an astounding view of the city skyline. We are, by no means, technically knowledgeable on the ins and outs of the French culinary arts but the dishes at Cantaloupe screams of elegance and a class of its own. Innovation and attention to detail are obvious in its roast wagyu rump, lobster risotto and beef cheek ravioli (just to name a few).

Lafite boasts classic French dishes and an extensive collection of wines (though Cantaloupe still takes the cake for biggest collection). As of late, Chef Jean-Philippe Guiard has transformed Lafite's menu with haute cuisine which is the signature for every great French fine dining. The crayfish spaghetti timbale was certainly a unique looking dish but hey, anything with caviar sounds good to us. The wagyu beef, is spectacular as well, but a warning for non-liver fans, duck liver is part of the dish. Lafite's staff are a very attentive bunch of people, so attentive that they will even provide you magazines should you request for them. We also witnessed how rose petals adorn a couple celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary (how sweet of them). All these makes up for a very exquisite and romantic French restaurant.
    Tips

"Smart Casual: closed toe shoes and long pants for gentlemen. Smoking is not permitted in Lafite."

    Things to expect

The most attentive and professional staff and finally, somewhere you can dine in private & not hear the patrons of the table next to you.

    Best with

We are still on cloud nine just by thinking about the black & white chocolate surprise.

    Price

    RM40.00 to RM100.00

Remember when we referenced Café Café in our other article for being one of the best fine dining spots in KL? Yeah, here it is again. Café Café and its exquisite interior design is unmatched by any other restaurant. Art decor: check. Draping chandelier: check. Outstanding French food: double check. The dimly lit atmosphere just adds more to the Parisian date kind of feeling. Aside from the wagyu beef which melts on your tongue like melted butter and foie gras mentioned in the previous article, the Stir Fried Fettucine with Truffle Oil is highly commendable. Good news, we do not need to book a flight to France now!
    Tips

Keep away your mobile phones in your bags or pockets. It is too dark for photos & hey, at least, you can enjoy your food without snapping away every 5 seconds.

    Things to expect

An environment highly recommended for lovebirds and romantic souls alike.
