The bustling island city of Penang is synonymous with nasi kandar. It’s a famous local dish that many people love to get their hands dirty. Frankly, it’s easy to see why: a plate of fluffy white rice (or sometimes briyani rice) is filled with one or several choices of marinated meats (chicken, beef, mutton and among others) and some vegetables. Here’s come the best part: a mix of curries is then drenched all over the rice. In fact, any true Penangites will tell you that it isn’t qualified as nasi kandar if your dishes are not “banjir” (flooded) with curries.

Once a humble stall situated along the street of Jalan Gelugor, Shariff Nasi Kandar has now operated in a more comfortable premise of a food-court complex. And thankfully, the taste remains the best like they used to. Topping the must-have list here is their lip-smacking ayam ros (rose chicken) and onion omelette. The price may have slightly decreased, but still considerably decent for a robust meal like nasi kandar.More info
