Maggi Goreng, the notoriously common dish in Malaysia named after the most famous instant noodle brand in this country. The dish is easy enough to make yourself when you have nothing else to eat but still prove to be a favourite safe choice when dining outside. The typical Maggi Goreng would use the Maggi brand instant noodles (though this may vary) with a mixture of ingredients like meat, condiments and spices. It is quite hard to screw up such an easy dish, mainly because you’re only adding to the readily available taste, but some places went above and beyond in cooking or creating their own recipe of Maggi Goreng.

Restoran Taj
Restoran Taj is a local Mamak in Bornion Commercial Centre that attracts enough attention for their dishes. Maggi Goreng is just another menu available here but deserves special mention because of how they do it. Normal Maggi Goreng can be boring so Restoran Taj spices it up with a sunny side up egg. Not enough you say, still boring? Well, Taj took it up a notch and added fried chicken for good measure. Their fried chicken is known be deliciously juicy and rich in flavour as expected of a Mamak style fried chicken.

Annajah & Katering Restaurant
A restaurant that is famously known for its lunch menu and even more so for its delectable grilled fish (ikan bakar), Annajah & Katering Restaurant also offers cooked food by order. One of them (obviously) is Maggi Goreng. Done in their own style, the Maggi Goreng is more of a ‘wet’ version compared to the usual. While the visual may not be so enticing, this plate of Maggi Goreng is a classic case of not judging a book by its cover. The dish is also not that spicy so more people can enjoy it.

Restoran Meeran
The kind of dishes here seems to run the theme ‘lamb’. But that is what makes Restoran Meeran a worthy visit, their lamb galore. It is only natural for them to add in lamb in their Maggi Goreng recipe and that they did. It may not be the best cholesterol combination but lamb, and Maggi, are loved for a reason. Tagging along for the ride are the usual ingredients; some greens, cabbages, egg and lime. Relatively better than other shops selling similar version of Maggi Goreng, Restoran Meeran is worth being on the list of place to visit.

Restoran Salim
Restoran Salim’s Maggi Goreng is relatively simple; Maggi noodles fried with cabbages and mustard leaves with bits of scrambled egg, it further strengthens the notion of how the simple the dish is. But when you’re out and bout at some ungodly hour in the morning, sometimes you crave more than the usual ‘roti’ so Maggi Goreng is pretty much the next safe bet. It is a crime not to eat this with a sunny side up egg; just watching the runny yolk running down your noodles, there may be bigger pleasures in life but for now, this is enough.

Kopi Ping Café
Kopi Ping Café is quite a famous one as it is located at one of the busiest area, Damai Plaza. Although known among the public for other type fried noodles, the Maggi Goreng is equally as good. Clearly this café know their way around frying noodles. Maggi Goreng being one of the most versatile dishes, customers could request how they want their Maggi to be served; with vegetables, no vegetables, extra meat, add a fried egg, name it and it’s done. Rarely people would comment on how well a Maggi Goreng is so when they do, you know that it’s good.
