Fierce Curry House
With two awards from Timeout KL Food Awards (Best Cheap Eats & Best Indian) and a spot on Food Wars Asia, Fierce Curry House has generated quite a buzz for some time now. Where their mutton varuval is concerned, it is able to deliver on the hype this restaurant has been getting. The plate can consist of different mutton pieces, whether they be leaner pieces or boned pieces. The mutton is very tender and can be pulled off the bone easily in the case of the bone pieces. Living up to the restaurant’s name, the spices in this plate are certainly fierce and will give the kick you look for in a plate of mutton curry.

Devi's Corner
The mutton varuval at Devi's Corner certainly stands out from the rest in a few areas. The one area where it does stay true to the varuval recipe is the fact that the mutton is a very rich dark red colour from all the spices. The other thing to note is that there aren't many (if any) boned pieces on the plate. However, a few mutton pieces that are layered with a bit of fat can be found. This adds substantial flavour and texture to the dish, as well as a slight variety in terms of consistency in the pieces.

Sentul Curry House
The mutton curry at Sentul Curry house delivers on the promise of a great plate of mutton curry. First off, the gravy is much thicker than usual, which makes it work well with not only rice, but other things as well such as thosai, roti canai, and much more. The mutton pieces are very tender and are a pleasure to bite into. This is also partly due to the fact that the mutton pieces have absorbed all the rich spices and flavours from the gravy, thus elevating the dish further. The other nice thing to note is that while the curry is very rich and spicy, it does not overwhelm the accompanying meal, making it a great side dish for an Indian meal.

Vishalatchi Food CateringCertified
halalVishalatchi Food Catering has been a well known name in Chetinad cuisine in Brickfields for a long time (often confused with their rival, Vishal Food Catering, located three doors away). The first great thing to note about the mutton curry and mutton varuval here is that there aren't any bone pieces, wish makes eating your plate of rice and curry a significantly less tedious process. The consistency is also great to mix well with hot rice. True to Chetinad form, this plate of mutton curry certainly comes with a lot of heat, but not at the expense of great flavour.

T-Club
Upon looking at the signature mutton curry and mutton varuval at T-Club, there should be no surprises if you’re looking for a good serving of mutton goodness. They look rich and fiery; exactly how mutton dishes like this is supposed to look. The mutton pieces are very juicy and have absorbed all of the flavours of the spice base. The spice base itself is sufficiently spicy, without overpowering the rest of the dish. The consistency of the mutton curry is great to mix in together with rice and/or bread while the mutton varuval is of a nice, thick consistency that will make the accompanying dish a lot richer.

Taj Garden
If you're looking for you're mutton curry fix as soon as you arrive at KL Sentral, head on down to Taj Garden Restaurant, which is only 10 minutes away from the station. The north Indian mutton specialty this restaurant serves up is the mutton madras, a much thicker version of its South Indian counter part. This alone suggests that the curry is great to be mopped up by a serving of Rumali bread, naan, chapati. As far as the flavours go, the curry itself is heavily infused with coriander seeds and fennel, which help give it a distinct kick. The tender mutton pieces help to bind all this and elevate the dish even further.

Restoran Anuja @ PuduCertified
halalSituated along the shoplots Jalan Pudu, lies Restoran Anuja on the first floor serving up banana leaf rice. At Restoran Anuja, one of the standout sides is the mutton varuval, as it has a lot going for it. As far as texture and consistency goes, the mutton pieces are extremely tender and easy to sink your teeth into, and is a delight when paired with the crispy spices. With each bite, there is so much flavour in the mutton pieces. The flavour of the spices used is very extravagant. Pair this with the spicy aftertaste and the plate is taken up another notch.
