Penang is known to everyone as one of the birthplaces of the Peranakan culture. The Baba-Nyonya culture is a large part of Penang's heritage, so it should come as no surprise that there are many Nyonya restaurants all over little Penang. Nyonya food in itself is very different and exquisite, and when cooked traditionally, each dish becomes a distinctive recipe. Even the simplest style of chicken curry and rice is cooked differently when done the Nyonya way - with the addition of more herbs and spices, thus giving it an added dimension of comfort food.

Ivy's Nyonya Cuisine
Visit Penang and everyone will recommend you Ivy's place. It is widely famous despite being located in a old converted house. Don't let the shopfront fool you - the restaurant may not be fancy but it is certainly cosy. Ivy's place is simple and straight with no fuss, but their dishes are rather the other way round. Most of the dishes are prepared thoroughly with a lot of effort, especially the Jiu Hu Char. Meals here also very affordable, and they offer many kinds of lunch sets that come with drinks.
