We all know that laksa from Penang has captured many hearts of food explorers around the country. But, have you heard about the legendary laksa from Sarawak instead? It is brought together with a few household ingredients namely prawn and chicken to make the broth and then served with fine rice vermicelli. Unlike the Penang version, Sarawak Laksa tastes sweet due to the amount of time needed to make the soup and at the same time spicy and flavourful. Though it might be called the common term, do not be confused with the one in Penang because Sarawak Laksa has its own unique taste! Here are a few places where you can get the best ones!

Poh Lam Laksa
Given the fact that every time you ask for the best Laksa Sarawak in town, the locals will direct to Poh Lam Laksa. The laksa is served in its own signature red-coloured bowl which matches the signage of the cafe itself. The amount of ingredients may seem little, but generously this small bowl of goodness will make you keep going back for more. The prawns are seen fresh out of their shells because of their pinkish tangerine colour which goes very well with the amount of bean sprouts and the rice vermicelli. Your bowl is accompanied with sambal mixed with a sliced lime for you to enhance the taste of your soup and give it a slight sourly flavour.

Mom's Laksa
Based on a 20-year-old recipe and has won awards like Fabulous Food 1Malaysia, Mom's Laksa has been the talk of the town! It is true when they say how a mother's dish is always the best. Mom's Laksa is definitely a bowl to ogle at: with its amazing combination of bean sprouts and boiled prawns together with fresh chicken slices and omelette strips. Finally, some fresh coriander is garnished on top to even up all the orange which also enhances the fragrance of the curry-like gravy. Once you try this one, you would never want to try another ever again!More infoMom's Laksa Kopitiam View restaurant

Madam Tang's Laksa
Traditionally made from ingredients no fresher than fresh coriander and recently the previous winner of the Kenny Sia's Hawker Food Award for the best Sarawak Laksa, Madam Tang prepares you for a refreshing Laksa dish; but with a wide range of toppings and sizes. Instead of the usual sliced omelette pieces, they include half of a boiled egg instead. Very much little on the santan so it does not drown the original taste of the other ingredients, you can be certain this will fill you enough one full meal.

Ah Mui Laksa
Often compared to the one back at Fat Cat Cafe, we are certain this one has an identity of its own. Always served with a lavish amount of prawns, omelette slices and shredded meat, that has definitely become the winning factor of Ah Mui Laksa. The soup itself has a combination of both the richness of coconut milk and flavours of certain spices altogether enhanced with the redness caused by chilies in the soup. Does it really top to Fat Cat Cafe? We doubt but you be the judge between the two.

Big Prawn Laksa
Good news for prawn lovers! You will never be disappointed with this bowl of Sarawak Laksa because it is served together with not one but two huge pieces of prawn! Besides the nice combination of rice vermicelli, bena sprouts and a few meat pieces, the highlight of the whole bowl is definitely the giant seafood neatly placed on top of the soup. Despite the size, they are well-cooked to a rather orange colour and the shell is soft enough to be peeled off or it will drop off immediately. And to think that this will cost you half a day's wedges, you are in for a surprise.

Fat Cat Cafe Laksa
Being always consistent with all their servings, the Laksa stall in Fat Cat Café has captured the attention of many. Their gravy has a strong fragrance of the coconut milk which leads to making the texture thick but enough for it to be consumed easily. Together with shredded chicken, your choice in your preferred size of prawns and finally rice vermicelli that is cooked just right, you will find yourself slurping to the very last drop!
