What started off as a poor men's food during winter in the Hakka regions of Taiwan, today is a staple dish that nourishes your body and soul. This traditional Hakka dish is literally translated as pounded tea and offers a myriad of health benefits, definitely a mandatory for those of you who are looking to sluice your unhealthy sins. Commonly, generous proportions of rice, assorted vegetables and nuts brim in a bowl with another bowl of algae-hued broth towing along, which is made up of herbs, tea leaves, and sometimes peanuts. Lei cha may not be pervasive as it is in Taiwan, but we prepared a crib sheet for the best spots in Penang to school you that being healthy is always on the cards.

Ruyi Delights
If you’re hankering for Hakka delicacies in a cosy atmosphere, Ruyi Delights is the place to be. The menu is pretty extensive yet nothing leads to disappointment. Visually stimulating and nourishing, their Lei Cha has plenty of the patrons hooked. Needless to say, expect a brimming bowl of vegetables, nuts and rice teaming up with another bowl of greenish broth that packs a herby punch. Aside from the multitudinous health benefits, the fun interplay of colour and texture charms your palate too. Despite the generous portion, it does not take a toll on your wallet and the atmosphere is worth a mention too, therefore eating healthy is no longer a tough pill to swallow.
