Loh Mee is a diamond in the rough. It’s commonly found in hawker stalls but it may not be everyone’s top choice when it comes to satisfying their stomach as it’s never easy to hunt down an exemplary one. A good loh mee mainly lies on the thick and gooey broth which is often infused with shrimp or pork bone, corn flour, and eggs. The real flavour twist is adding a dash or two of black vinegar for that pungent kick. As any soupy dish, it’s chockfull with thick noodles, meat slices, boiled egg and sprinkle of fried scallions. For optimal gratification, hop over to handpicked spots below.

Restoran Yew Swee
This unassuming restaurant has been magnetising over patrons for their impeccably good curry laksa, at the same time, they also churn out one of the best loh mee in town. The gravy is slurp-worthy, as it’s not too starchy, with a clean hit of savoury and crustacean flavours at each mouthful. The yellow noodles are chewy and toppings like bean sprouts, fish cake slices, char siew slices, egg, and a dash of lard smatterings complete your indulgence. Add few drops of vinegar for an additional dimension of flavours.

Cawanmas CafetiamCertified
halalNot a fan for thick and gooey broth, then you have got to visit this restaurant which is a firm favourite among the locals. Despite being a little watery compared to other contenders in the listing, the soup is flavoursome and the noodles are handmade - less thick yet silky smooth. The bowl is then filled to the brim with fish balls, chicken chunks, fish cakes and vegetables. A common rule to live by with loh mee, few dash of black vinegar would add an additional oomph to your palate.
