A Malayan original, Roti John is an omelette sandwich that is usually very affordable but delicious. The sandwich is usually accompanied with minced meat, onions, eggs, tomato and chilli sauce. After putting everything together, the whole baguette-like bread is pan-fried. The dish is commonly found in Malaysian mamaks, amongst some cafes and what not. It's a local favourite so we plainly had to source some of the best ones in Kota Kinabalu as well.

Smile Burger @ Asia City Complex
Asia City often houses food bazaars that consist of various food stalls. Amongst our favourite is Smile Burger, but not for the burgers. All eyes of ours are set on the Roti John here. Freshly made to every order, it is no wonder the dish is especially hot, tasty and satisfying. What we regret to mention is that these bazaars are not always available and you might have to keep an eye out for it. Nevertheless, Ramadhan festive bazaars are always present here!

Restoran Sri KeningauCertified
halalWe loooove Restoran Sri Keningau for the wide variety of Malaysian goodies here. What's cool about the restaurant is that they also serve cool things, such as roti Horlicks. Roti John here is served in several ways but we especially adore the Roti John Ayam. Portion is generous and flavors are on point. There's little to nothing not to love about Restoran Sri Keningau.... Oh wait, the prices though, might bug some penny pinchers.

Kolombong Fish Head Curry & CafeCertified
halalUltimately known for their fish head curry as displayed on their restaurant's name, Kolombong is fundamentally a great Malaysian mamak. The Roti John here is especially credible as its portion is generous with prices that are friendly to our pockets. Taste wise, the dish also lacks little to nothing. Made to order, this dish is as fresh as it gets.

Foodogenic
Bringing in a twist to the classic Roti John, Foodogenic kicks it up a notch by introducing a Roti John inspired dish, Cheese Steak. First off, we love the classic recipe but this Cheese Steak deserves recognition. Served on a plate with long bread sandwiching pulled beef and lots of melted cheese, this Cheese Steak is guiltfree to our happiness (not to our physical bodies).

Tokmi StationCertified
halalTokmi Station is a one stop wonder for roti lovers. 90% of patrons here frequent Tokmi solely for their roti canai, roti telur, roti tisu and roti John included. Needless to say, we love our roti so you bet we love Tokmi Station especially since they whip up lovely roti John! The stall is pretty generous in size so you should not have trouble finding a seat despite large crowds.

Lok Kawi Ramadan BazaarCertified
halalDuring Ramadhan month, it is a must to visit the Ramadhan Bazaar at Lok Kawi Army Camp. Not only the bazaar market stalls delicious food but the Roti John here is definitely note worthy! Firstly, the portion is large but yet fares very affordable (thus far). It's certainly one of the more filling yet reasonably priced items in the bazaar so be sure to grab them fast!
