Best Soto in PJ

Written by Updated ago

Soto is among the pride of Indonesian cuisine and its well-adorned by Malaysians too. Unlike all those excessively gussied up soupy dishes out there, a good bowl of soto is meant to be kept simple. It’s a light-bodied herbal or chicken soup simmered with turmeric powder, herbs and spices which is then ladled over nasi impit, vermicelli or yellow noodles. Fried shallots, bean sprouts, tender slices of chicken, boiled egg, vegetables and sprinkle of herbs are then scattered over the surface of the dish. You can never deny that this is what you desperately need during a perfect cold weather. Noodle geeks, the curated list below present a challenge for you to return to your previous noodle favourites.

Rankings of all participants as visible on our listings are solely voted by you, our beloved readers. With that said, we would encourage you to please vote for your preferred participants in order to ensure their rightful positions ranking-wise on our portal. Thank you!

Village Park Restaurant is a stalwart in the nasi lemak scene and the teeming crowd is a dead giveaway you should be a part of it too. Apart from the main attraction of the restaurant, their soto has been nabbing a fair amount of accolades too. Cubes of nasi impit are buried in the delicious broth and topped with generous amount of chicken slivers and fried tofu, then finished with sprinklings of fried shallots, herbs and nuts that add an element of crunch to the dish. The texture of the rice cakes deserve a mention, it’s soft yet chewy, certainly complementing the savoury broth.

Chawan is a popular chill-out spot for locals who hanker for a decent selection of Malaysian delights. Among the trump card on the menu is their soto ayam which can be savoured with rice vermicelli, yellow noodles, both mixed or nasi impit. The balmy bowl is then spruced up with chicken pieces, a smattering of nuts and chopped chives. A soul-warming bowl of soto without a hefty price tag in a cosy and clean environment, it has everything you can ask for. Oh yes, do wrap up your meal with their signature freshly brewed coffee that is served in a Baba Nyonya chawan, that’s how the name came from.
