When you eat it, it gives you a delightful taste and satisfaction. However, when it comes to the broth, you might be a little disappointed. Its colour is pale which explains the bland taste. On the bright side, you will be pleased by its big portion. With no added preservative, this 3-minute instant noodle is perfect for non-fussy eater who eats almost everything.

Koka is a Singapore brand of signature curry instant noodles that stresses on the healthier option of instant noodles. With no added MSG, preservatives, and artificial colouring, this is as healthy as it gets for an instant meal, enough that it is also vegetarian-friendly. Due to these absences, the colouring of Koka Signature Curry Flavour can be a wee on the lighter side. The curry taste is also a bit downplayed; the taste is present but to people who are used to laden of MSG in their food might find this a little bland. Generally, curries are expected to be spicy but Koka strives to market this product to as many age groups and background as possible and so, the spiciness is almost absent. The name says it all; being extra hot as it is, this Mamee Sllrrrp series is hot in the mouth and even among consumers. Possibility of burning your tongue is high if not careful enough, especially with the sizing of the noodles being above average. Surprisingly it does not take too long to cook considering the sizing of the noodles but if ever to cook it a little longer, even the pot would be set to fire – yes, it is that hot. Not for the weak-stomach, the dish is gives off a fair amount of curry flavour however not too much in overwhelming the spiciness. 

AEON Top Valu Sdn Bhd has taken another step by manufacturing instant noodles and without an exception, a curry-flavoured one. Focusing on practicability when making it, Topvalu’s curry noodle is really easy and quick to make – within an instant, literally. Not quite a catch in terms of the taste; a little bland than your usual noodle, but the broth probably will make up to it considering the curry flavour is pretty decent. 

In another attempt by Maggi to produce a spicier curry flavour instant noodles, here’s Maggi Letup Kari Cili Api. Taking into consideration the spicy but could be spicier versions of Maggi Kari and Kari Letup, they went all out and incorporate bird’s eye chilli in their soup recipe. But in order to still make it marketable, the spiciness is controlled and a little bit subdued. However, the heat from the chilli would hit after swallowing, felt at the back of the throat. Despite its not-so-popular reputation, this instant noodle has a lot to offer. You would be hooked from the first sip. The broth gives out a nice warmth and rich curry taste. If you love a bit of spiciness in your curry mee, this one is perfect for you. It is not super spicy, but certainly warm. The end product does have a very appetising look of vibrant dark orange colour, like that one would expect of a curry. The soup does give off a slight heat at the back of the mouth, but even so the spiciness is hardly anything to worry about. All in all, it is a good attempt at recreating authentic curry flavour in a packet of instant noodles.

The smell and the look would remind one fondly of an actual bowl of curry noodles. The rich and creamy soup has a colour of pale orange with traces of chilli and oil, and a concentration that is quite runny and not too thick; it looks like a bowl of Penang curry with promise of flavourful sip after sip. It does not compare to the real thing that took time and effort to make, but it deserves recognition in recreating as much as it can for a meal that is cooked in a much lesser time. For your information, Indomie Instant Noodles Chicken Curry Flavour is actually a soup noodles. Don’t expect the broth to be thick, creamy and curry-like, because it is the opposite. Even though the soup has a very deep colour to it, but it does not really taste like curry. Nonetheless, this product is suitable for people who can’t tolerate spiciness in their noodles. Plus, extra points for the large quantity of mee provided.  

Hands down one of the best white curry mee out there and it cannot get any better on the fact that it is an instant product. Ibumie really knows what they are getting into. Texture wise, the noodle is above average in size and less springy than most what is expected of instant noodle, but to a surprise the noodles do not tend to get soggy even they are left for ages; a little exaggeration but the truth has spoken. The delectable broth is authentic on its taste, similar to your friendly neighbourhood curry mee stalls that have been around for generations - delicious! 

Bearing at a normal rate of spiciness, Kari Berapi is definitely spicy, but worry-not folks, it is still manageable. The redness of the broth it portrays will kick your taste bud a little with its curry flavoured paste. Just a heads up, do eat it in a jiff as the noodles are quick in slurping in the soup, or else they will grow as twice as the original size!
