Heun Kee Claypot Chicken RiceNon halal 01f78899591256b47a2708a65f6538333b86089a30fbd22545a41deece4ea490

Heun Kee is probably one of the many rare claypot chicken rice restaurants that has their own website! Founded and established by Madam Heun May Lan, Heun Kee has been around since 1985 (exactly 30 years ago!) and has been running stronger than ever! Heun Kee managed to sustain their quality because they use the highest grade of rice and the freshest chicken meat in the market. Heun Kee still abide by Madam Heun’s claypot chicken rice principle and that is the use of grilling charcoals. The aroma and fragrance of the claypot rice by using charcoals and fire is sworn to be really different by foodies and they’re right!
    Tips

There are parking spaces behind their restaurant. You can place an earlier order if you want to take away.

    Things to expect

Do expect to wait about half an hour if you’re taking away your claypot rice because everything is cooked from scratch.

Hailing from Kampar, Kim Poh actually is a direct translation of the town’s name in the Hokkien dialect. It’s been around 1975 and it’s also one of the few claypot chicken rice restaurants that have a website of their own! The chicken chunks are marinated in dark soy sauce and Chinese rice wine, which explains the fragrance of the chicken that’s immersed into the moist and crunchy at the bottom rice!

    Hutong @ Lot 10Non halal 01f78899591256b47a2708a65f6538333b86089a30fbd22545a41deece4ea490

To be eligible as one of the food vendors in Lot 10’s Hutong Food Court, your food business must be at least 2 to 3 generations old! Apart from being almost historical, it’s got to be a famous and established name/brand standing on its own as well. Lot 10 Hutong only accepts vendors who are culturally significant in their food and industry. What sets Lot 10 Hutong’s claypot chicken rice apart is that patrons can enjoy traditional, delicious hawker food in an air-conditioned zone in the lower ground floor. This claypot chicken rice here is called China Town Seng Kee and you guessed it, it’s originally established in China Town itself. Individually cooked and oh-so-fragrant, you can also order an additional egg if you please.
    Tips

Do give their Claypot Lou Shu Fun a try too.

    Things to expect

    A little pricier than usual.

Located in a hawker restaurant at Old Klang Road, the claypot chicken rice here is almost divine. For those who prefer a crunchier ending, the cooked rice in this stall does not make it as burnt at other places. Apart from that, the rice is sufficiently moist and well seasoned.
    Tips

    Parking is crazily packed here!

    Normal hawker stall environment.

This humble restaurant runs in a cream-coloured house with no sign boards so it may be a little tricky for outsiders who aren’t familiar with Setapak to find. Wei Ji only uses big chunks of chicken meat in their claypot chicken rice and if you’re lucky, they’re boneless. With julienned ginger, generously cut spring onions, sweet Chinese sausages, juicy chicken meat and salted fish (if you prefer) at the side, what more can you ask for?

Aman’s Food Stall serves one of the most reasonably priced claypot chicken rice around. If you’re nearby Sri Petaling, head on over to Restoran Good Tea to have a cheaper alternative for dinner. They’re very generous when it comes to their special blend of chili padi soy sauce and chopped onions. The crunchiness of the onions just fits really well with the fragrant chicken rice.

Now an established restaurant, Restoran Makanan Teow Chew serves mainly Teo Chew delicacies such as braised pork, toufu and salted vegetables with white porridge. But guess what? The bestseller here is their claypot chicken rice. Just like any claypot chicken rice, they’re topped with chicken, Chinese sausages and spring onions. The special thing about this dish is that it is served with a handful of tiny deep fried anchovies for more oomph!
