Supper by definition is a light snack in the later evening, but us Malaysians, we don’t do things by definition. No matter what people say, there is just something about having a meal in the dead of the night; it’s cooler, most of your friends only come to life at night, and because when the sun goes away, then only we would go out and play. When those late night cravings hit, finding a good place to dine may not sound as easy, unless you are the resident night owl. With that said, do scroll down and you'll discover a list of places worth visiting after dark.

Al Rawsha Restaurant
Middle Eastern food is known to have rich flavours and comes in hefty portions. At Al Rawsha, rest assured that you will get all that and more. Take the Lamb Mandy for instance, the traditional cuisine from Hadramaut with its earth baked rice and lamb cooked so well that each pieces just fall off the bones and melts in your mouth. Chicken is the other meat available, and customers could also go for others like the Kabsa or Maghdut. The best part about this place is that it opens all the time, all week long. Doesn’t matter what time hunger strikes, Al Rawsha doors are open.

Sangkaya @ Bukit Bintang
Sangkaya is already a well-known brand with multiple franchises across west Malaysia, but this particular branch is the only one stays open ‘till late, thus perfect for our list. There are options on how you want the coconut ice cream to be served; single scoop in a cone or the triple scoop in a bowl with a topping. But why not save the time and go straight for the Signature of four scoops of creamy coconut ice cream and three chosen toppings, served in a halved fresh coconut with the flesh still inside. The Sangkaya way has always been to go nuts for coconuts!

Hong Kong Hot Pot Restaurant
The steamboat at Hong Kong Hot Pot Restaurant is one of the richer and more expansive hotpots in the area. All of this is attributed to the selection of soups as well as the myriad of ingredients you can place in your pot. Hong Kong Hot Pot Restaurant takes the selection of soup very seriously, which is seen in soup bases such as “Sakura Pork Bone Soup”, “Imported HK Century Egg & Coriander” and “Szechuan Spicy” to name a few. As far as the ingredients go, there are a tonne of options, but one of the standout options is definitely the “Hong Kong Fried Fish Skin”, which is recommended to be eaten only after two small dips into the pot unlike the other ingredients (which all go into the pot at one go). This helps retain the flavour and the crispiness in the fish skin. Another set of ingredients that get a similar treatment is the “US Premium Marble Beef Slice”, where the stages of cooking can be seen with each individual dip, adding a great visual element to the experience. All of this can be accompanied with the house made chilli sauce and the Taiwanese Black Bean sauce to add a few more notches of flavour.

Damansara Uptown Hokkien Mee @ Kuchai Lama
The Kuchai Lama branch of the Damansara Uptown Hokkien Mee shop has been known to draw quite a large crowd, so its only natural that this be acknowledged as a great destination for supper. Customers can choose to have three different noodles, be it the standard fat yellow noodles, mee hoon, or yee mee; which comes as no surprise. The great thing about this stall however is that the deep fried crispy pork lard bits can be added on as toppings in your plate of noodles, which helps elevate the dish from a textural and flavour standpoint. The simplicity and overall allure of the Hokkien Mee here should justify this place as a great supper joint.

Burger Bakar Kaw Kaw
Forget about the usual mini-sized road side burgers that you adore and embrace the magnificence that is burger bakar. One of the most famous roadside burger stalls, waiting in line way longer than necessary for a burger may seem ridiculous, but like most journeys, the end of the road is worth the wait. There are too many stars on this burger planet so a few worthy mentions include the Burger Kahwin and the Double Beef Baconizer Cheezy. Lightweights can opt for the single patty cheese burger, or spice your life a little with the Single Baconizer. Daredevils, on the other hand, could always go for the triple patty, at your own risk.

Hayaki Kopitiam @ Setapak
How many restaurants offer Kelantanese delights in KL? And one that opens all day, every day nonetheless. At the fully localised Hayaki, expect to be served the best of Kelantanese dishes like Nasi Kerabu and Nasi Dagang. However, another item on the menu that deserves special mention (and only because we have mentioned Nasi Kerabu) is the Nasi Kukus Hayaki. Wrapped in banana leaf and brown paper combo as you would nasi lemak, the portion are more than generous with steamed rice, fried chicken, cucumbers, sambal, anchovies and peanuts. When that weird hunger for rice struck at an ungodly hour, know that Hayaki is around.
