Little MumsCertified
halalLittle Mums is the modern version of Mum's Place. Providing their own version of authentic Malaysian cuisine, this restaurant is said to welcome the brave hearts who loves spicy food. One of the main dishes here is the Portuguese ‘Devil’ Curry Chicken. Served in a white porcelain bowl, you can smell the aroma of the curry from afar. The curry texture is thick and it has a very beautiful colour to it. Packed with potato, tomato, chilli and chicken, this bowl can feed up to five people. However, it is also depends on your own appetite. Taste-wise, this dish is can be considered as inimitable. It does not taste like the normal regular curry elsewhere. Probably due to the Nyonya-styled of cooking, the gravy is prepared with tomato based which produces a tangy and savoury flavour. Another favourite dish at this restaurant is the Fried Cencaru Chilipadi Paste and Petai. This one is specially made for spicy lovers. The chilli paste is made from pure blended green chilli padi. Although the fish was a little overcooked, but this deliciously spicy cuisine is something you wouldn't want to miss.

FATTY CRAB
If there’s one crab restaurant you want to try around PJ area, you can’t go wrong with Fatty Crab at Taman Megah. Although the restaurant has other food options such as prawn, steam fish, fried rice and satay, it was the mouth-watering Sour and Spicy Crab that ranked at the top of must-have list. The crab meat is succulent, and particularly pairs well with their amazingly thick sauce. In fact, the sauce itself – which has a subtle hint of sweet, sour and spicy taste – help make the flavourful crab dish all the more finger-lickin’ good gastronomic delight. If that’s not enough, enhance your meal experience by ordering their lightly-toasted bread and try dipping it with the sauce altogether. As for the restaurant itself, you’ll get a lively ambience often expected from a Chinese-operated seafood eatery amidst the brightly-lit décor.More infoFatty Crab View restaurant

KANNA CURRY HOUSE
When comes to banana leaf rice, Brickfields often peaked at the top of the list. But that doesn’t mean you can’t find a decent banana leaf restaurant in the PJ area. In fact, there is one place that fulfils such criteria, which is Kanna Curry House in Section 17. Like most banana leaf restaurant, Kanna Curry House offers a wide variety of local cuisines such as roti canai, chapatti, nasi lemak and Maggi goreng. But the biggest highlight here is the enticing banana leaf rice dish. It comes with a basic serving of white rice and assorted vegetables as well as crunchy papadum (an Indian-styled flour crackers). Of course, no banana leaf rice would be complete without the rich and flavourful curry dishes such as mutton varuval and chicken curry. If you’re into fried food, opt for their top-selling Pressure Fried Chicken or the delicious deep-fried squid. If there’s any gripe about the particular dish, some purists might not be pleased with the artificial banana leaves used to fill in the food. Still, looking at the bright side, it wasn’t that bad after all since you don’t have to concern too much about hygiene. Finally, the dining area is spacious and blessed with air-conditioned interior so you won’t get stuffy while enjoying your spicy meal. Alternatively, you can choose to sit at the outdoor area.More infoKANNA CURRY HOUSE View restaurant

TWO PESOS
At the first glance, it’s easy to be mistaken the word “pesos” within the restaurant’s name has something to do with Philippines cuisine. However, this hugely popular restaurant actually serves Taiwanese mini hot pot. Typically, a hot pot or steamboat doesn’t come cheap but Two Pesos deserves a thumb-up with its reasonably-priced menu starting from RM10 per set. No wonder the place is frequently packed with lots of crowds. And despite its inexpensive menu, the food quality is surprisingly decent enough to satisfy your taste bud. Best of all, you’ll be spoilt with 12 delectable mini hot-pot sets to choose from (Classic Original, Korean Kimchi, Japanese Sukiyaki, Basu Spicy, Taiwanese Sacha, Two Pesos Stone, Milky Seafood, Original Spicy Dual Delights, Light Vegetarian, Sour Greenings, Mongolian Herbs and Tajine Seafood). After choosing your hot pot set, you are required to pick a meat of your choice (Pork, Beef or Lamb) as well as rice, yee mee or mee hoon. If a basic hot pot set is hardly enough for you, there’s plenty of add-on options such as egg, fried beancurd, fish ball and dumplings. Although the place itself looks compact, the overall setup makes you feel refreshed due to the orange-themed décor. Finally, here’s a cute little touch about this place: instead of a regular 2B pencil, you are given a coloured pencil to tick your menu order.More infoTWO PESOS View restaurant

ERAWAN CLASSIC THAI & FUSION
Hailed by many food enthusiasts as one of the best Thai restaurants in the PJ area, Erawan may have been pricey for most average wage earners but if you like Thai cuisine, it’s at least worth trying once in a while. So what makes Erawan such an acclaimed Thai restaurant? Let’s start with the décor: the front door itself is an eye-catching mix of intricately crafted red-and-golden wooden materials. Once you took a step inside, you’ll find yourself charmed with the laidback interior filled with floral arrangements and wooden furniture. Then comes the food: you have to applaud the way of the meal is beautifully presented and yes, they are Instagram-worthy as well. Beyond the good-looking food, the taste is just as equally fulfiling. For instance, the signature Royal Lotus’s Petals Snack is a scrumptious warm-up for an appetiser, while the green curry variety (opt for the roasted duck) is both robust and aromatic. If you have a room for more, complete your meal with the juicy Mango Platter — a dessert consists of Thai’s water lily mango chunks, fragrant pandan glutinous rice and refreshingly homemade coconut ice cream.More infoErawan Classic Thai & Fusion View restaurant
