Among the most sought-after stall is the kolo mee, which previously operated at Sungai Ara and finally returned to action after a long hiatus. The flash-boiled pale yellow noodles and heap of meats make up a clean hit of flavours. For a dose of heat, do include their chopped chillies.

Just a short stroll away from Kek Lok Si, this humble restaurant has been churning out local and Western delights that are impeccably good and reasonable. Among the best sellers here is their kolo mee, where the original version has everything to have pork lovers weak at their knees. Generously portioned, the springy bed of noodles is topped with minced pork and char siew and each mouthful lends a nice pork oil fragrance. If you need additional flavours, lace the noodles with their red sauce and add their braised eggs for extra oomph.

The presumptuous name does set an expectation to this modest looking cafe but one can never deny the food options and flavours are pretty good. Among the pull for punters here is the kolo mee which puts one in the mood for slurping clean a balmy bowl of springy noodles basted with sauce and topped greens, minced pork and slices of char siew and finished off with sprinklings of spring onions. The chopped chillies that come along kicks in a little heat.
