Literally translated to 'sugar water', tong sui is a Cantonese term for any sweet soup. With that said, the origins are indeed from China but only amongst Cantonese communities. For some people, tong sui can be an acquired taste as these sweet soup desserts are made of ingredients that are not usually found in desserts, such as sweet potato, beans and tofu. Situated at Pandan Indah, Soon Kee Herbal House specializes in Chinese desserts. When it comes to tong sui, the utmost priority besides taste is it's healthy and fresh ingredients. Besides their best-selling Longan Tofu (must try!), you'll find other equally delicious desserts such as Honeydew Sago, White Fungus & Barley and even Ginseng & Snowfrog. Though tong sui is not as pretty as dolly cakes and colorful tarts, there won't be any healthier desserts around.
