Although today’s generation of youth culture may have been exposed to more fanciful offerings of desserts such as frozen yogurt, gelato, soft serve and whatnot, there’s always a place in the heart for a good old-fashioned local dessert. One such example is our local favourite cendol — the familiar sweet sensation consists of finely-shaved ice loaded with thick Gula Melaka syrup, coconut milk, red beans and of course… the soft and chewy texture of green cendol strands.

It’s strange enough that a Nyonya restaurant only offered one type of dessert in the menu and it is none other than cendol. But the Straits Food Company’s version of cendol is a nice complement to end your meal. Filled with a mountaintop of shaved ice almost reminiscent of an ice kacang presentation, the cendol here is a delightful blessing of creamy coconut milk, sweet kidney beans and flavourful Gula Melaka.More info
