In the United States of America, chicken chop is categorised as soul food, an American tradition, but all the way over here in Malaysia, we label chicken chop as street Western food, food that has been part of our food heritage. Hence, with an insatiable hunger for the comfort that chicken chop brings to our tummies, we made our way to these restaurants and named some of the best chicken chops in Petaling Jaya. RIP to all the chicken that had to be sacrificed along the way.

Union Artisan Coffee may have a coffee first in its name but make no mistake about it, their chicken chop is one of the best in PJ. They have 3 flavours of sauces for the chicken chop - Lemon Curry, Honey Mustard and Roasted Peanut. Certainly something different from the usual Mushroom or Black Pepper Sauce.

Murni Discovery SS2
Murni needs no introduction if you’re 1) a university student or 2) a resident of PJ. Famous for their quick service without compromising their quality of food, their Nasi Goreng Chicken Chop has always been a recommended dish & most popular one to date. We’re talking about a gargantuan portion of rice, coupled with a huge piece of breaded chicken chop, topped with black pepper sauce & sunny side up egg on the mountain of fried rice. Oh yeah, not forgetting French fries on the side. Sounds like a lot? Yeap, take it in. What you see on the plate will be the one of the yummiest thing you will probably have on that day. It is a mystery how Murni manages to keep people wanting more without feeling bored or too full. Their Nasi Goreng Chicken Chop is one of those dishes that you have to have, just because it really is THAT good.More infoMurni Discovery SS2 View restaurant

Pasta Boy Cafe
Before the birth of this café, the family of owners was running a hawker stall and the elderly husband and wife couple are known for being super friendly and accommodating. Fast forward a few years later, Pasta Boy Café opened and now serves one of the best chicken chops in Damansara Perdana. The best thing about this restaurant is that it serves simple Western dishes including the chicken chop at affordable rates. A personal recommendation would be the Mongolian Chicken Chop which you can have on its own or with the pasta. Something about the sauce evokes an exotic feeling in my tastebuds and it surely likes it. Honestly, give this place a try just for the sake of its warm service.More infoPasta Boy Cafe View restaurant

Cafe Lafayette's chicken chop will make you wonder on whether or not you have the wrong order. As it comes with a large portion of salad, the focus will somewhat divert elsewhere. Nevertheless, the perfectly cooked chicken thighs with black pepper sauce and a ring of pineapple on top, finished with cheese and a cherry certainly is quite delicious. It's tender, juicy, succulent and packed with flavour. The sweetness and acidity of the pineapple works really well with the rich and flavourful sauce too. Stay healthy with a whole lot of salad as well.

Don’t be fooled by the gigantic drain that is the landmark of Section 14, PJ. Piccadilly is like the second version of Murni, albeit with smaller portions but a menu that is not any smaller. Located below a block of condominims called Millenium Square, Piccadilly or Picca, offers almost every single dish imagineable ranging from Malay, Thai, Chinese, Italian, and Indian. One of the dishes served is Grilled Chicken Chop, which will be a meal worth having. The meat is tender and juicy while the sauce goes really well with the fries. Even the coleslaw is good enough to have on its own. Sure, the portion may be a tad too small, but hey, good things come in small packages, they say.More infoPiccadilly Restaurant View restaurant

Drenched in ambrosial cream sauce, the crispy chicken chop here will mesmerize you with its myriad of flavours, albeit looking like a simple dish. The crust of the chicken is well preserved with its crisp; going exceptionally well with its tender meat and decadent sauce. Served by the side are some greens to balance out all those indulgence.

This stall which is also located in Damansara Uptown Hawker Centre is run Uncle Steven and his wife Auntie Lily and has been going strong and steady for the past 16 years. A hotel chef by training, Uncle Steven decided to quit the hotel world and decided to open a business where people can have cheap & delish chicken chops for half the price. Here, you can order either fried or grilled chicken chop which comes with fries, coleslaw and a bonus side, fried egg. The grilled chicken is well seasoned with salt and spices while the breaded chicken chop was crunchy and not too oily. It’s not a surprise that the business has collected some loyal customers spanning two generations along the way.More infoSteven's Western Corner View restaurant

Rail CanteenCertified
halalThe chicken chop at Rail Canteen is pretty straight-forward. Deliciously tender flesh with crispy crust, french fries, coleslaw, baked beans, halved tomatoes and a surprisingly different, mushroom sauce. Apart from the perfectly cooked chicken thighs, the sauce is what makes the dish so unique. The slightly spiced and fragrant mushroom sauce is packed with essence of black pepper and onions. Blends really well with the chicken and the fries.
