Sambal Hijau Restaurant
Starting out as an underrated restaurant in Kampung Sungai Penchala, Sambal Hijau was soon discovered by local media & was catapulted to fame after appearing on Jalan Jalan Cari Makan. The rest, as they say, is history. Now, Sambal Hijau has expanded from a small restaurant by the roadside to a bona fide superstar in the Malaysian cuisine scene, even accumulating to almost 5000 customers per day. What's the secret to its infamouss Ikan Bakar? Well, it's pretty simple really, they only use fish that is certified, well, no pun intended, fresh out of the water! Serving jenahak, kerapu, pari and a variety of other types of fish, there is no doubting the lure of its ikan bakar.More infoSambal Hijau View restaurant

Puteri Cafe
Those Malaysians who are basically in love with roti canai banjir, will surely salivate over the grilled fish here at Puteri Café. Known for their ikan bakar banjir or flooded in spicy sambal sauce, Puteri Café differs from the other ikan bakar stalls listed here as they allow the customers to choose their preferred type of fish and then laying out the different choices of sauce in a buffet spread. The keyword here is "customisation" by the customers. Popular choices of fish include sting ray, catfish or ikan keli, ikan merah and ikan kembung while choices of sauce include tamarind sauce, sweet soy sauce, Kelantan's signature budu and tempoyak for the adventurous souls. Here at Puteri Cafe, it is all about mix and match.More infoPuteri Cafe Ikan Bakar Banjir View restaurant

Gerai Mak Alang, Medan Ikan Bakar Bellamy
Ask any true blue KL-ite on the best place to have ikan bakar and we can guarantee that 9 out of 10 will mention Bellamy Road. Tucked behind the old Istana Negara, this food court specialises in grilled fish and all things yummy. Last time we checked, there are more than 8 stalls selling ikan bakar, so that's more than you need to try in a week for every day. Lunch is a busy and hot affair, what with the current sweltering weather in Malaysia, but as they say, where's the fun in tearing down into a piece of charcoal-grilled fish without the sweat, tears and blood? (okay, we exaggerated a little bit on the last part). Despite being located in Kuala Lumpur, Jalan Bellamy seems immune to the effects of time and is surrounded by elegant architecture. Well, enough about the architecture. Head on down to Gerai Mak Alang or to be more scientific, Stall Number 3, where all sorts of underwater creatures are grilled to perfection with a wide choice of sauce can accompany your meal. Why does this stall stand out? Because they serve something that the others don't: TEMPOYAK! Tempoyak is a durian-based sauce or gravy and is not for the faint of heart. Coupled with the sweet taste of tilapia and it's like you're gobbling up magical mermaid meat in your mouth. Oh, so heavenly.More infoGerai Mak Alang, Medan Ikan Bakar Bellamy View restaurant

Seri Banjar Ikan Bakar Spicy
Seri Banjar Ikan Bakar Spicy is located in Majlis Perbandaran Selayang's food court, on top of a small hill overlooking one of Selayang's roundabouts. It does offer a decent view, though nothing compared to Troika Sky Dining (obviously!). For starters, let us warn you that the "secret" sauce coating the grilled fish may come off as a little strong for unfamiliar tastebuds but it is an acquired taste that can grow after half a dozen bites. Or, as an alternative, if you do not fancy the sauce as much as we did, then just scrape it off and enjoy your fish make-up free. Fans of Chinese-style cooking will also be delighted to know that the owner is a Chinese Muslim, hence the dishes are as close as you can get to the original albeit with a few adjustments here and there. The fish meat is grilled to a buttery softness and has a dollop of curry flavour to it and you can even have it without dipping it in the chilli sauce. As Gardenia's jingle goes: You can even eat it on its own.More infoSeri Banjar Ikan Bakar Spicy View restaurant

Kak Ton D'Condo
Long before the "comel tak Kak Ton?" cosmetics advertisements were shown on television, another Kak Ton reigned in the deep suburbs of Segambut… and it goes by the name Kak Ton D' Condo. Grilling fresh fish in banana leaves to give it an extra oomph, Kak Ton's recipe has proven to be a hit amongst local residents who flock to the stall in droves. Despite its popularity, Kak Ton maintains its prices at a low, not allowing the introduction of GST to affect its business. A grilled rayfish or ikan pari costs less than RM5 and the insides are as white as snow and melts of the delicate bones. Drinks are also very cheap and in times like this, economic choices are a blessing.More infoKak Ton D'Condo View restaurant

Sala Sabaii
Being a Thai restaurant, having grilled fish is a common thing to have. Like many other out there, it is done with a salt-crust by the skin over a charcoal grill. Once the fish has been cooked, the skin will then be removed to reveal the juicy flesh within. Of course, the skin is not meant to be eaten, but for those rebels, you could definitely do it as it does possessed a good amount of saltiness and flavour.

Ishin Japanese Dining
Here at Ishin, be prepared to be served a huge tuna cheek (yes, you read that right), without having the stress of being stared at while you eat, because they cut off the eye and the mouth. Who knew there is so much flesh on a fish’s cheek? The tuna is very fresh, seasoned and grilled straight until it’s beautifully charred and crispy. The flesh on the inside however is very soft, juicy, naturally sweet, and managed to remain that way through the whole grilling process. The dish is served with a side of grated radish and lime’s juice to intensify the flavour by drizzling on top of the tuna before you dig in. Clearly the only thing left to say is ‘Itadakimasu’!

Rising Son
Hands down, one of the best you can get around Bangsar and what more the dish is infused with Japanese style grilling that only at a few places offers a good one at a decent price. The grilled saba is served on top of a leaf, giving off a hint of some herbal taste to it and sided with shredded daikon radish - the usual yet no doubt a winner.

Mat Teh Ikan Bakar
We have long heard about Mat Teh Ikan Bakar and was simply waiting patiently in front of our laptops for an assignment that wil get us going for some ikan bakar here. Hence, once we got that opportunity, it was all rainbows and unicorns. Grilled in banana leaves, the flavour of the fish was immediately emphasised and the sambal was spicy enough to satisfy our appetites. We would like to emphasise on how juicy and succulent the ikan bakar was, bigger than average yet still maintaining a decent price. However, since Mat Teh is such a crowd pleaser, he usually closes up shop around 6pm as most of his fish are gone by that hour. So yeah, latecomers, say goodbye to fat pieces of grilled fish on your plates.More infoMat Teh Ikan Bakar View restaurant
