The very “British” ritual of afternoon tea or high tea (as we call it here) owes its origins to a Duchess of Bedford in the UK named Anna. Back in the 1800s, Duchess Anna lived in an era whereby two main meals were commonplace with absolutely NO snacks in between the meals and she, like so many of us girls nowadays, has a huge appetite and ended up being irritated by her growling tummy waiting for dinner everyday. So what did Anna do? Well, she did what all of us will do, allocated a special time to take tea and snack each afternoon. This practice was soon adopted by Anna and her circle of friends. Ever since then, the high tea culture has not stopped growing and is even a regular mealtime in a number of restaurants in Malaysia.
