Be it fried or wet, popiah (a.k.a. spring roll) is a popular local snack that can be eaten anytime of the day. Typically, popiah is stuffed with a combination of crunchy fillings such as shredded yam bean (sengkuang, which is a must!) and vegetables (carrots & cucumbers). Of course, what’s a popiah without a dip of sweet and/or spicy chilli sauce? Other fusion types of popiah such as seaweed popiah and Vietnamese rolls can be found as well. One of the star dishes at the famous Retaurant Nam Chun, the popiah is said to be quite appetising and is a local favourite. This spring roll's skin is fairly crisp and is not too thick to distract from the flavourful fillings. Also, the fillings can get to be quite generous too and that is what everyone loves. The restaurant is your good ol' coffee shop (kopitiam) and is usually very crowded, so be prepared to wait for a table or share a table. Parking can be quite troublesome in this area.
