Sushi. Yes. That perfectly cooked rice wrapped around in fresh seaweed with a combination of seafood, vegetables, and so much more. Over the years, many Sushi restaurants have tried to bring this Japanese delicacy into Malaysia with the hopes of making a profit, but there have been a handful which have succeeded by putting their heart and soul into this refined cuisine. All in all, presented below is a list of carefully selected restaurants that have made the cut as some of KL’s best!

As expected of a Japanese restaurant, the variations of sushi served here is impressive. Instead of the usual sushi, entertain your taste buds with the myriad of flavours in Ishin’s famous rolls. The Phoenix Roll is a deep fried prawn, rolled in sticky rice and topped alternately with strips of avocados and mangoes; all ingredients as fresh as it can be. Served in the shape of a long prawn, the prawn middle is excitingly juicy, and all the flavours came out well in every bite of the sushi. Other worthy mentions include the generous size of Caterpillar Roll that consists of soft shell crab, roe and avocado, and the Special House Maki with their crunchy fried prawns.

    Tips

The free jockey parking service would allow you to leave your car in their good hands, just remember not to leave any valuables.

    Things to expect

Taking some time to figure out how to put a whole sushi roll in your mouth.

The awesomeness that is the Red Bean Matcha Ice-cream to end your meal on a sweet note.

The sushi variety at Izumi definitely covers a wide range of options. Theres of course the salmon sushi, unagi sushi, and a great visual highlight is the tamago mentai with bonito flakes; which is topped with Japanese mayonnaise and bonito flakes. The rice binds the additional ingredients very well, even after dipping them extensively in soy sauce, showing great rolling and forming technique in the sushi. The pieces of fish are very fresh and rich with flavour. There's plenty to enjoy in terms of flavour, especially in the case of the tamago mentai with with bonito flakes, which has the sweetness from the mayonnaise combining well with the saltiness of the bonito flakes to create a pleasurable bite.

    Tips

Careful when handling the tamago mentai with bonito flakes so that the bontio flakes don't fall off the sushi.

    Things to expect

Many different variations of sushi are available such as seaweed rolls and beancurd rolls.

    Best with

Grab as much soy sauce and wasabi necessary to enjoy the dish.

    Price

    RM1.05 to RM2.50

The facade of the platter somewhat welcomes its eater with a rather delightful entree filled with rolls and sushi such as the flying fish roe or tobiko, white tuna or shiro maguro. This platter as a matter of fact sets forward to put assorted sushi mix with cucumber maki at the side. The infamous Emperor Dragon Maki is also at hand for some classic taste of sushi. In a nutshell, it is quite a decent platter to snack on.

    Tips

Do not miss out on their flying fish roe, really worth a try.

    Things to expect

A decent amount of sushi packed on a platter.

    Best with

Best with the ever classic soy sauce of course.
